Several changes likely for Bangladesh series
LAHORE: A major overhaul of Pakistan’s Test squad is on the cards as the team gears up to face Bangladesh in a two-match series at home.
Sources within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have confirmed that the selectors are considering significant changes to the playing XI in an effort to bolster the team’s performance in the longest format.
Several key players are facing the axe due to inconsistent performances or fitness concerns. Among those in the spotlight are all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr, batsman Saim Ayub, and spinner Nauman Ali. Their inclusion in the squad for the Bangladesh series remains uncertain as the selectors weigh their options.
In a bid to inject fresh talent into the team, young and promising players are being considered for selection. Mohammad Huraira, known for his aggressive batting, is a strong contender for a spot in the middle order. Sahibzada Farhan, another talented batsman, is also being considered.
The fitness levels of pacers Amir Jamal and Hasan Ali will be crucial determinants in their selection. The selectors will closely monitor their rehabilitation process before making a final decision.
Head coach Jason Gillespie, who is currently overseeing the Pakistan Shaheens’ campaign in Australia, will play a pivotal role in shaping the final squad. A training camp is scheduled for the second week of August to prepare the selected players for the series. The first Test will be played in Rawalpindi from August 21 to 25, followed by the second Test in Karachi from August 30 to September 3.
