IHC CJ stresses probe into Arshad Sharif murder
Police officials said there would be complications when the main accused was in Kenya
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has summoned Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Law officers to form a judicial commission on the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif and sought a reply on August 6.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq said: “You are trying to be more loyal than the king. Why a Pakistani citizen was killed by the Kenyan Police. If not today, after 10 years, there will be an investigation.”
Police officials said there would be complications when the main accused was in Kenya. How can the proceedings start without him?
The CJ inquired from the additional attorney general what the government’s position was regarding the commission formation.
The AAG said there was also a matter of commission before the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The CJ said according to the IGP, his hands were tied because the evidence was in Kenya. He said the judicial commission should conduct an inquiry and its report should be made public.
