Gulf investors eye South Punjab’s corporate farming

MULTAN: South Punjab is a cornerstone of Pakistan’s food security. Leading the country in cotton and wheat production, the region also boasts a rich tapestry of fruits renowned for their exceptional taste. The Gulf countries are interested in investing in South Punjab for corporate farming and dairy farming. Apart from this, there are vast investment opportunities in the livestock sector in South Punjab.

The South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Fuad Hashim Rabbani said this while talking to the Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed Rajwana on Thursday.

Fuad Hashim Rabbani said the issue of food security is emerging all over the world and the agriculture sector can become the forerunner of the economic revolution in the country. He said South Punjab is like a food basket and provides food and grain to all over the country.He said poverty can be eradicated from South Punjab through developing the agriculture sector.

Fuad Hashim Rabbani said the Department of Agriculture in South Punjab is following the progress of the agricultural sector on modern lines and an online monitoring system has been launched to monitor the pest attack on cotton, while strategies for using artificial intelligence (AI) for the progress of agriculture are being developed. He said the South Punjab Secretariat will seek the support of all stakeholders for the progress of agriculture.

Rajwana said that Nawaz Sharif Agricultural University is committed to research in the field of agriculture and work is being done on the preparation of prototype development models in the agricultural university.
