CHARSADDA: The Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) on Thursday staged a protest demonstration at Tangi Tehsil Bazaar against worsening law and order, rising inflation and electricity loadshedding.

A large number of QWP workers and office-bearers carrying banners and placards attended the protest, which was led by its provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao. The protesters chanted slogans against the government for failing to overcome inflation and provide relief to the people in the aftermath of backbreaking inflation.

Speaking on the occasion, the QWP leader demanded the government to take steps to improve the deteriorating law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sikandar Sherpao said the government must take steps to improve the law and order or else the situation would spiral out of control.

He said that the government was following the policies of the International Monetary Fund and it was least bothered to consider the problems being faced by the have-nots. He said that the government had made life difficult for the people by raising the prices of the petroleum products and electricity tariff.

Sikandar Sherpao demanded the government to review the agreements reached with the Independent Power Producers to provide relief to the electricity consumers. The QWP leader said that it was unfortunate that the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were being made to pay inflated electricity bills despite the fact that the province produced cheap hydel electricity.

He said that thousands of families had been pushed under the poverty line due to the failure of the government to control inflation. He said that the people were unable to feed their children and were compelled to commit suicides. Urging the government to adopt austerity measures, he said that the rulers should cut the non-development expenditure to give some relief to the people.
