LAHORE: In a situation where Pakistan’s sports structure is already near collapse, a further blow has been delivered by the failure on the part of the NTDC, a unit of WAPDA, to pay its sportsmen.
The salaries of sportspersons have been delayed for months, leaving them in immense distress. A wrestler from NTDC said that he is struggling to educate his children because he has not received his salary for over three months.
Imran Zafar, Sports Officer, NTDC, was approached on a number of occasions at his office number but he was not available for his views on the issue. However, a source within the NTDC confided that the matter is in the knowledge of the top officials, and all the issues will be resolved and sportspersons’ grievances will be addressed.
The situation is extremely precarious. The lack of salaries also hampers the training and ability of sportspeople to give better performance in their careers. In addition, it places them under a huge amount of pressure in their day-to-day life.
