Maryam launches medicine warehouse project in Punjab

CM directed swift functionalisation of medicine warehouses in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the biggest ‘Medicines Warehouse Project’ for provision of medicines.

The chief minister visited the central warehouse at Maraka with health officials on Wednesday and inaugurated provision of free medicines in various district hospitals.

The CM directed swift functionalisation of medicine warehouses in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan. Nine medicines warehouses have become formally operational across the province, with the capacity to store more than 17 billion medicines and pieces of equipment.

Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan said that medicines can be stored at a standard temperature and transported from the latest warehouses.

On the direction of Maryam Nawaz, nine central warehouses have been established under the free medicines project and medicines worth more than Rs10 billion have been stored in these warehouses. New and latest medical equipment exceeding Rs7 billion for revamping of hospitals, along with furniture, three-colored disposable bedsheets and other goods, will be provided to hospitals from the warehouses.

Standard furniture, the latest medical equipment, medicine trolleys, disposable bedsheets and other goods will be provided to various district hospitals from warehouses across the province.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had a meeting with German Ambassador Alfred Grannas to discuss growth in bilateral relations, including business, trade and technical education. She also reviewed possibilities of further cooperation in various sectors such as health, education, renewable energy, vocational training, information technology and others in the meeting.

The chief minister appreciated Germany’s ongoing cooperation and investment in the development sectors of Punjab and assured German investors and businessmen of full support in providing the help and facilities they need.

Alfred Grannas reiterated Germany’s commitment to strengthening mutual relations with Punjab and appreciated the efforts of Punjab government in creating a favourable environment for foreign investment in the province. He agreed to continue cooperation for achieving sustainable development goals and promoting innovation and technological progress.

The chief minister also met J Seven (J7) Group Chairman Maqbool Hussain Awan and discussed the need for joint efforts to improve the basic infrastructure in the province and discussed cooperation in several important areas such as urban development and affordable housing.
