ISLAMABAD: Ms Ambreen Jan, Director General External Publicity Wing, is being appointed Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting vice Ms. Shaheera Shahid, who is attaining superannuation today (Thursday).

Highly placed sources in the Prime Minister’s House told The News Wednesday evening that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif interviewed a panel of contenders for the slot in the presence of Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar early in the day and decided to appoint Ms Ambreen Jan to the post.

Sources pointed out that Tarar supported the concept that an officer belonging to the Information Group (IG) should head the ministry.

Ambreen Jan is known for hard work and is popular with the ministry employees and officers equally.

Ms Shaheera Shahid would be hanging her gloves today and Ms Ambreen will assume the new assignment tomorrow (Friday), the sources said. The notification of new appointment would be issued today. The new secretary information is a senior Grade-21 officer and would be assigned as secretary in-charge for the time being. It is likely that she would be promoted to Grade-22 in the upcoming meeting of the High Powered Board (HPB), which would be convened next month, the sources added.
