KARACHI: A high-level meeting of PHF’s officials on Thursday in Lahore discussed measures to organise Pakistan Hockey League (PHL).

The meeting was chaired by PHF president and attended by secretary Shahbaz Ahmed and other officials including Brig (Retd) Musarratullah.

The meeting discussed the details of the proposed league and vowed that it would be held in the country in October and November this year.

They decided that the event would be held with five teams.

A high official who was present in the meeting told ‘The News’ the PHF also considered an alternative plan of shifting the event abroad in case of any unforeseen situation. Abu Dhabi and Doha are the alternative options.

But sources said the priority of the PHF was to organise the event in Karachi, Lahore or Rawalpindi.

The sources said the PHF had informed the FIH that they were going to organise the Pakistan Hockey League.

The sources said that it has been decided that each team would have at least two foreign players.

Players from Germany, Holland, Australia, Spain and England are keen to participate in the event, they said.

The bidding process would be launched very soon, the sources said.

A source said that international hockey star Jamie Dwyer of Australia wanted to participate in the league.
