SHC CJ calls for addressing family matters through mediation during pre-trial proceedings

Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Mohammad Shafi Siddiqui has directed all the district and sessions judges to equally distribute the cases among judicial officers so that the burden of work was shared equally by all the officers.

Presiding over a meeting along with senior judges of the high court and district and sessions judges on observance of punctuality and reduction of backlog of cases at the committee room of the SHC, Justice Siddiqui emphasised the importance of expeditiously resolving cases through mediation.

The SHC chief justice particularly highlighted the significance of addressing family matters through mediation during pre-trial proceedings. He also directed the judicial officers in all the districts to maintain punctuality for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the judicial system.

The meeting also discussed ways to early dispose of cases involving under-trial prisoners (UTPs). It was resolved that all necessary measures should be taken to expedite the resolution of the UTP’s cases, including conducting proceedings on a day-to-day basis.

The meeting encouraged the judges to reduce the backlog of cases and ensure timely justice for those awaiting trial. SHC Senior Puisne Judge Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto and Justice Mohammad Junaid Ghaffar physically attended the meeting along with district and sessions judges of the Karachi division while district and sessions judges of other districts participated

The meeting discussed the issues pertained to reduction of backlog of cases and controlling the increasing trend of pending cases, observance of punctuality, court timing, dress code, maintaining proper discipline by judicial officers and staff, and controlling the trend of leaves availed by judicial officers.
