LAHORE:Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider has said concrete steps are being taken to improve universities, especially for prevention of drugs.

The governor was talking to a delegation of students from various universities who called on him at Governor House here on Wednesday. The students informed the governor about various issues including girls' hostels, transport and increase in fees. Speaking on this occasion, Governor Sardar Saleem Haider said that the youth are the future of the country. He said that in addition to imparting education to them, their moral training is also very important. He said the most important purpose of education is to develop tolerance. The governor said that it is the responsibility of the institution to provide a clean environment in the universities.

The governor he would visit the universities himself soon. He said the doors of the Governor House are always open for the students. The governor appreciated the proposal of youth portal given by the students and assured to start work on it at the earliest. On this occasion, the students thanked the governor and said that they got the opportunity to meet the chancellor directly for the first time and apprised him of their problems. The governor assured them of solving their problems.

PU awards PhD degrees to 10 scholars

Punjab University has awarded PhD degrees to its 10 scholars. According to detail, Anila Iram received PhD degree in the subject of Sociology, Saima Zubair in Administrative Sciences (Management), Abeeha Imran in Sociology, Babar Hussain in Sociology, Hafiz Muhammad Ashraf in Zoology, Mamoon-ur-Rasheed in Space Science, Itrat Zahra in Zoology, M Imran Khan in Islamic Studies, Saima Quddoos in the subject of Communication Studies and Muhammad Atta Ullah Khan in the subject of Mathematics.
