Mutahir, Khakan move into Eastside Open pre-quarters

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Mutahir Ali Shah and Khakan Malik moved into the pre-quarterfinals of the Eastside Open in Australia on Wednesday.
Unseeded Mutahir surprised Feanor Siaguru 11-6, 9-11, 13-11, 12-10 in 43 minutes and unseeded Khakan stunned Jamie Pattison 11-5, 11-8, 11-9 in 24 minutes in the first round. However, Australia’s Javed Ali beat Moeen Ud Din from Pakistan 11-6, 11-5, 12-10 in 26 minutes. Now, Mutahir is to face sixth seed Sven Stettler and Khakan is up against second seed Robin Gadola in the second round.
