This letter refers to the news report ‘Maryam announces free flats for workers in Taxila, Sunder colonies’ (July 11, 2024). The question is can this country afford giving free flats to anyone? On one hand we have this scheme of giving 1,224 free flats. On the other hand we cannot even enrol the majority of our workforce under the EOBI and give them basic pensions.
It is requested that the CM uses her office to get the maximum number of workers in Punjab enrolled with the EOBI. Rs10000 pension is not much but one can at least buy atta, ghee and dal for the month with this money.
