Freedom of the press

Freedom of the press

What if news was manipulated by an elite few, burying unpleasant realities and suppressing different opinions? What we see today is not much different from this dystopian situation. We are witnessing an outright contrast to the ideology that a free and transparent press stands as a central tenet to a thriving democracy and something must be done about it. There are so many brave journalists who are unfortunately not given the platform to bring forward important topics. Allegations made by wrongdoers often lead to backlash against journalists. An unsafe environment for journalists creates a vacuum for the people. When the people have no one to bring them answers, agitation and restlessness kick in. You lose the trust of people in their own officials. Change, however arduous it may be, is necessary. Freedom of the press should be a right. Violence against journalists need not be ignored and their voices need not be suppressed. Utmost support and respect is deserved for those who shed light on the truth. Let us not be a nation shrouded in ignorance.
