PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has withdrawn the selection of Taimur Shah as chairman Board of Governors (BoG) of Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) Peshawar in pursuance of orders of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

“In pursuance of orders of Peshawar High Court, Peshawar, given vide order sheet dated 25.6.2024 in COC 295-P/2024 with CM 1171 & 1174-P/2024 and order sheet dated 05.07.2024 in W.P No.3055-P/2024 with IR, CMs No. 1171 & 1174-P/2024, this Department notification No. SOH(MTIs)/BOG/APPOINTMENT/MTI-KTH PESHAWAR/2024 dated 20-06-2024, regarding selection of Taimur Shah, as chairperson of Medical Teaching Institution, Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar, is hereby withdrawn,” the secretary health said in a notification.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had recently made some changes to the board of governors of certain teaching hospitals in the province but some former members of the board approached the PHC to challenge their removal.

KTH BoG Chairman Dr Umar Ayub Khan and some other members had moved the court. Dr Umar Ayub and other members had approached the court and informed it that the government had planned to remove them. The court had directed the government not to remove them. An official of the Law Department had told the court that the government had no such plan but the very next day the BoG members were replaced. It prompted the PHC to summon the then secretary health Mahmood Aslam Wazir for violating court orders.
