The Punjab Kissan Commission announced by Shahbaz Sharif during the Punjab Agriculture Conference 2016 along with the Rs100 billion Kisan package will help increase per acre yield and development of agriculture. The chief minister has also announced that representatives of farmers, agriculture experts and government officials should fully participate in working groups and formulate concrete proposals and recommendation in light of which a solid agriculture policy would be framed.
We have seen no increase in per acre yield in the recent past. Increase in per acre yield is not possible without transferring modern technology to farmers. New policies also have to be formulated for farmers keeping in view the changing weather patterns and international market slump. In view of these, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is requested to organise a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agriculture Conference and formulate policies for the development of agriculture in the province to help increase per acre yield.
