LAHORE:Pakistan’s first Virtual Women Police Station, established within the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), has arrested the parents who were arranging the marriage of their 12-year-old daughter.
The parents were marrying their underage daughter to a foreign national for financial gain. As per details, Virtual Women Police Station received a call from the neighbours upon which they immediately dispatched the police team to the scene, which stopped the forced marriage. The girl's parents and the Nikaah Khvaan were taken into custody and legal proceedings were initiated.
The PSCA spokesperson stated that the Virtual Women Police Station is active 24/7 to resolve issues faced by women, including harassment, domestic violence, forced marriage, and acid attacks. He said women can contact the Virtual Women Police Station by calling 15 in any emergency.
Six die in road accidents
The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,075 road traffic accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these accidents, six people died, whereas 1,125 were injured. Out of these, 477 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals.
Robber killed; robbery bid foiled
A suspected robber was killed and a Sikh clinic owner was injured after a robbery attempt at a homeopathic clinic was foiled in the Raiwind area. Reportedly, Istindir Singh Paul along with family members had set up a clinic. On the day of the incident, three suspected robbers approached there and tried to loot them on gunpoint.
However, Istindir Paul Singh and others offered resistance. The suspected robbers resorted to firing. A bullet hit their accomplice and he died on the spot. Another bullet hit Istindar Paul Singh. Istindar was shifted to hospital. SP Sadar visited the crime scene and hospital to inquire after Istindar. Body of the victim was shifted to morgue.
Two shot at, injured
Two persons sustained gunshot wounds in an incident near Sabziwala Bridge within the jurisdiction of Haier police. Both the injured persons identified as Nazim 28 and Nasir 45, were promptly taken to a hospital, where they were declared out of danger. The shooting reportedly stemmed from a minor altercation. Police have initiated legal proceedings, registering a case against the accused persons who fled the scene.
