Four people, including two women, drowned bathing in the sea off Hawkesbay and Sea View beaches on Tuesday.
At Hawksbay, five individuals, including four women, drowned taking a dip in the sea. Upon receiving the information, lifeguards and rescue personnel arrived to assist and retrieved all five individuals from the sea in an unconscious state.
According to Mauripur SHO Chaudhry Tufail, a man died on the way to a hospital, while the women were taken to the hospital where two of them also passed away. The officer said that the affected family resides in Liaquatabad No. 3, near Gujjar Nullah. The deceased were identified as 30-year-old Noreen, wife of Shera, Asma, and 40-year-old Arshad, son of Basheer.
Meanwhile, off the Sea View beach, three friends were swimming in the sea when a young man named Danish, 24, drowned after being pulled away by waves. The youth was a resident of Sultanabad. Divers recovered the body of Danish after a search.
Karachi’s Additional IG Javed Alam Odho has taken strict notice of the drowning of three individuals at the Turtle Beach, Hawkesbay. He has ordered departmental action against the SHO for negligence and carelessness. According to the Karachi police spokesperson, strict legal action will be taken against individuals violating Section 144, which prohibits swimming in the sea. In the event of any person drowning and dying at Sea View, Manora, or Hawkesbay, strict legal action will also be taken against the SHO/DSP.
