Members of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) on Monday observed a full-day strike at the City Courts to protest against appointment of ad hoc judges to the Supreme Court, gun attack on protesters in Bannu, and non-allotment of 2,000 acres of land for lawyers.

A general body meeting of the KBA was held with its president Amir Nawaz Warraich in the chair. The meeting unanimously condemned the notification regarding appointment of ad hoc judges in the Supreme Court and demanded that it be reversed.

It also unanimously decided to give 15 days to the relevant authorities to allot 2,000 acres of land in DHA Karachi for members of the association. "In the event of no response by Government of Sindh, the KBA will organize protest at Shahrah-e-Faisal at Nursery point at 5pm on August 3," the KBA warned.

The body also condemned what it said cowardly attack perpetrated by extremists on the Pakistani consulate in Frankfurt, Germany, in which Pakistani flag was disrespected. It also unequivocally condemned "the heinous act of firing" on peaceful protesters in Bannu and expressed sympathies with the families of the victims.

The KBA general body also deplored the July 15 cross border attack on armed forces in Bannu and urged the government to take strong action against terrorists and take appropriate measures to prevent such attacks. The lawyers' body also expressed concern over law enforcement agencies' failure to recover missing Hindu minor girl Priya Kumari.
