Couple murdered in Manghopir over freewill marriage

A young freewill marriage couple was murdered allegedly by their family members in the Manghopir area on Monday.

Adil Noor, 22, and Saira Luqman, 20, were shot dead in the name of honour in Amir Mohammad Goth, a slum area near the water board. Manghopir police said that responding to information they rushed to a house situated near the last stop of the G-19 bus route in Sultanabad, where they found the bodies of the victims lying in a pool of blood. The police with the help of rescue teams took the deceased to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal proceedings.

According to the intitial investigation and questioning from locals of the area, eight suspects, including two women, barged into the house where the men shot dead the couple, who had married of their choice, and fled.

Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Bashir said relatives of the woman searched for both of them. After tracing the house, he said, first two women entered the property and confirmed that both of them were present inside, and then six suspects on three motorcycles came and shot the coupled before fleeing. The couple had entered into wedlock seven months ago and had earlier been residing in D’Silva Town, North Nazimabad. A case has been reported and investigations are underway.
