The announcement by a federal minister that the government was considering banning the PTI was an unwise and ill-thought step. Embarking on a course which, in all probability, would not get the constitutionally mandatory judicial consent is self-defeating. Such a move can only benefit the party the government wants to ban. They would gain sympathy from the inflation-stricken people. This call reflects poorly on the mindset of those involved. It would do the PML-N a lot of good if it considers changing the composition of its cabinet, which appears to include some who have promoted this undemocratic path.
