KP govt announces commission on Bannu violence

Findings of report would be made public and action would be taken against those found involved in violence

PESHAWAR: Adviser to Chief Minister on Information Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif said on Saturday that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had announced the formation of a commission to probe the violence in Bannu that claimed one life.

A handout quoting the CM’s aide said Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had announced the formation of a commission to probe the incident. The commission would present its report after conducting a fair and transparent investigation into the incident.

Barrister Saif said the findings of the report would be made public and action would be taken against those found involved in the violence.

He said the chief minister was in touch with the local administration in Bannu, adding the situation was under control in the district. A jirga was constituted to hold talks with the protesters after the firing incident. He said after the formation of jirga, the situation came under control.

The adviser said the government would come up with a strategy to avoid the occurrence of such incidents in future. The commission would conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident and submit its report. It will be made public and legal action will be taken against those responsible.

A massive protest was staged in Bannu on Friday on the call of elders and traders community. A complete shutter-down strike was observed in the city while a rally was staged. One person was killed and many were injured in firing during the protest.
