Pakistan Customs personnel, acting on intelligence inputs, successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt involving iPhones and other valuables worth millions of rupees on Saturday.

According to Syed Irfan Ali, a Customs spokesman, the operation was launched based on credible information provided by an intelligence agency regarding the illegal trafficking of mobile phones. Deputy Collector Hammad Ahmed led a coordinated operation with his team under the supervision of Additional Collector Muhammad Faisal Khan at Jinnah International Airport.

Ali disclosed that two passengers, identified as Shehroz and Sohail Amin, arrived from Dubai on Fly Dubai Flight FZ-329 at midnight. Surveillance was maintained on the suspects from satellite tracking to the baggage claim area.

Upon their arrival, the suspects were directed to the Red Channel for a customs inspection. During the scanning of their luggage, a substantial quantity of iPhones was found concealed in their carry-on bags. Subsequent thorough inspections of their persons and belongings led to the discovery of additional mobile phones.

The seized items included 28 iPhone 14 (128 GB) mobile phones, two HP Vectus laptops, 50 embroidered cotton suits, and 40 bottles of Prime Water Drink (500ml). The total estimated value of the seized goods amounts to approximately Rs6,451,034.

An FIR had been registered against the apprehended passengers to investigate any potential involvement of accomplices or facilitators. The Customs authorities had assured that further investigations were underway to ascertain the full extent of the smuggling operation. The successful operation underscores Pakistan Customs' commitment to combatting illicit activities and safeguarding national interests.
