LAHORE : Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has taken a commendable step for the welfare of the families of police employees who died during service. This initiative has alleviated the financial difficulties of the families of deceased police employees.
IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has issued orders to grant Rs750 million to the families of 362 employees who died during service in various districts, including Lahore.
IG Punjab said that the families of every police employee who died during service will receive an immediate financial grant according to the rules and regulations. He further mentioned that Rs10 million is being spent daily on various welfare initiatives for the force. This year, over Rs1.3 billion is being spent on funds for employees and their families.
IG Punjab emphasised that the issues of police employees regarding health, education, weddings, pensions, and other matters are being resolved promptly. He instructed supervisory officers to maintain close liaison with their subordinates and provide all possible relief.
Dr Usman Anwar assured that the Central Police Office will continue to address the issues faced by employees through the Police Welfare Fund and welfare resources, ensuring immediate relief.
255 road accidents
The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,169 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.
In these road accidents, six people died, whereas 1,359 were injured. Out of these, 641 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 696 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.
The statistics showed that 255 road accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 296 persons placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list followed by Faisalabad 83 in with 92 victims and at third Multan with 78 road accidents and 86 victims.
The majority (75%) of these incidents involved motorbikes, underscoring the critical need for effective enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline to curb the rising number of road accidents.
Furthermore, the analysis showed those 716 drivers, 57 underage drivers, 160 pedestrians, and 467 passengers were among the victims of road traffic crashes.
The details further revealed that 1,343 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 1,090 males & 253 females, while the age group of the victims shows that 290 were under 18 years of age, 704 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 349 victims were reported above 40 years of age.
