Calligraphy, speech contests to be conducted on I-Day

LAHORE : Calligraphy, speech competitions and marathon and hockey eventswill be organized under the auspices of Punjab Youth Affairs Department in provincial capital to mark Independence Day in a befitting manner.

DG Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal shared this information while addressing an important meeting regarding Independence Day programmes at National Hockey Stadium.

Director Admin M Kaleem, Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar, Deputy Director Zahoor Ahmed, Deputy Director Ataur Rahman and other officials participated in the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Pervez Iqbal said that Punjab Youth Affairs Department has chalked out a comprehensive programme to celebrate Independence Day in a befitting manner. “We are going to engage our talented male and female youngsters in a number ofinteresting youth programmes and competitions on Independence Day,” he added.

He informed that the youth of other divisions of the province will also be provided sufficient opportunities to express their hidden talent and abilities in the fields of their choice. “Thespeech and quiz competitions will be conducted in the other eight divisions of the province on this great occasion besides holding sports events such as badminton, table tennis and volleyball.

Earlier, Pervez Iqbal chaired another meeting of Lahore Division officers at National Hockey Stadium.

Addressing the meeting, Pervez Iqbal said that all the sports complexes of Lahore should be well maintained and attendance of employees should be ensured. He directed the officers concerned to pay special attention to the maintenance of GauShala, Karol Ghati and other sports complexes. He said that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated in the performance of duties. “Maximum number of youth should be inclined to healthy activities becausedevelopment of sports culture among younger generation is our mission,” he added.

Meanwhile, DG Youth Affairs Punjab Pervez Iqbal said that the Punjab government’s objective of conducting this summer camp is going to be fulfilled. “I have met several children and their parents and they are very happy and satisfied with the summer camp arrangements and quality of coaching, he said this during his visit to Summer Camps at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall. He witnessed a large number of young children participating in badminton and table tennis summer camps at this venue.

Talking to media on this occasion, Pervez Iqbal said that he is glad to watch hundreds of young school going children taking part in multiple sports activities in summer camp. “Sports Board Punjab has arranged summer camps of 12 games in Lahore in which qualified coaches and trainers are imparting valuable training to young camp probable”.
