PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) said on Friday Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was being pushed to darkness as the provincial task force committee had suggested decreasing the number of universities.

Speaking at the press conference, ANP provincial spokesperson Arsalan Khan and other members of the information committee said that the KP government’s indifference towards education was evident from the allocation of a two percent budget for the purpose in the recent budget.

The ANP leader said that education was always a priority with his party and the ANP had established nine universities when it was in power in the province. He said that universities were facing an administrative crisis due to vacant positions of vice-chancellors.

The ANP leader said the people of the province were yet to benefit from the 18th Amendment due to the incompetence of the government for the last 10 years. He said that the government had failed to establish the provincial higher education commission.

He said that KP youth deserved education opportunities. He alleged that millions of rupees were embezzled in the air conditioning budget of the Lady Reading Hospital and medicines of Naseer Ullah Babar Hospital on the Kohat Road. Arsalan Khan said other provinces were on the road to development but the KP was facing severe administrative problems.

He said that electricity consumers in the province were suffering from power line losses which was not their responsibility. The ANP leader said a culture of hatred was being promoted which would destroy everything.

Arsalan Khan said that 93 billion rupees had been borrowed which had exceeded the provincial debt above Rs1,000 billion. “The government statistics showed that KP debt would reach Rs2555 till 2030,” he added.
