10,177 suspects arrested in six months
Islamabad:The Islamabad Police carried out an extensive crackdown against criminal elements in the federal capital during the last six months to maintain peace and tranquillity, a public relations officer said.
He said that, in this regard the Islamabad police arrested a total of 10,177 accused involved in different criminal activities, and recovered cash and valuables worth over Rs1.40 billion from their possession.
Moreover, 881 accused from 365 gangs involved in robbery activities were also arrested and valuables worth over Rs410.35 million were recovered from their possession. During the ongoing ‘Nasha ab Nahi’ movement in the federal capital, a total of 1,187 drug dealers were arrested, and 273 kilograms of hashish, 355 kilograms of heroin, 25 kilograms of ice, 7,659 litres of liquor, and 239 intoxicating pills were recovered from their possession.
Additionally, 2,380 accused involved in tempering activities, property crimes such as theft, robbery, burglary, vehicle and motorcycle theft were arrested. Police teams also recovered cash including vehicles and motorcycles, from their possession.
The Islamabad Police also carried out extensive operations against those possessing illegal weapons, and arrested 1,110 accused and recovered 54 rifles, 20 carbines, 912 pistols, and 148 daggers from their possession. Similarly, during various operations against professional beggars and their facilitators throughout the city, 3,568 individuals were arrested.
The Police also conducted indiscriminate operations against proclaimed offenders, court fugitives and target offenders and arrested 1,384 accused. DIG Islamabad Syed Ali Raza said that, the Islamabad Police are utilizing all available resources to ensure the eradication of drug dealers and criminal elements from the federal capital.
He further said that the Islamabad Police will bring those involved in the heinous business of drug and alcohol trafficking to justice. Citizens are urged to immediately report any drug dealing or suspicious individuals or activities to their respective police stations, the emergency helpline ‘Pukar-15’, or via the ‘ICT 15’ App.
