British deputy HC visits Hub Canal, pumping station

British Deputy High Commissioner Sarah Mooney visited the Zero Point Hub Canal and Hub Pumping Station with the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, on Friday.

During the visit, KWSC Chief Engineer Bulk Sikandar Zardari, Chief Engineer Electrical and Mechanical Intekhab Rajput, Mustafa Magan and Qurban Magsi, along with other senior officials, were present.

CEO Ahmed, giving a briefing to the British deputy high commissioner, stated that the construction of the new Hub Canal and the rehabilitation of the old Hub Canal would commence with the support of the Sindh government to provide additional water in Karachi.

During the visit, detailed discussions were held on bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for mutual interest. Additionally, measures taken to improve water supply and sewerage systems were thoroughly discussed.

According to the spokesperson for the KWSC, the purpose of the meeting between the two parties was to explore opportunities of mutual interest. The KWSC CEO and the British deputy high commissioner discussed recent measures taken by the water corporation to address water availability and security in various areas of Karachi. Key topics included exchanging experiences, green environment initiatives, enhancing technical capacity, and intentions to involve international companies in the water sector.

During the meeting, CEO Ahmed briefed the British deputy high commissioner on recent reforms, rehabilitation, improvements, and the vision of the corporation in the coming years. Mooney appreciated the efforts of the CEO in transforming the corporation into a more efficient and service-oriented organisation and showed a keen interest in knowing the existing wastewater treatment capacity and recycling projects offered. She expressed her desire to visit other installations of the water corporation, including Damloti Wells.
