The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued notices to the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police as well as three brothers on the petition of the three men’s father who sought the registration of a case against them for harassment, and attempt to dispossess him and other family members of their home.

Abid Hussain said in his petition that his sons Muzammil, Khalil Ahmed and Mohammad Amir have been harassing him and other family members, and issuing threats to make them vacate their house in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

Hussain said his sons already have separate businesses and properties but still want to sell off the property where he is living with his wife and three daughters.

He said the respondents keep threatening them and making their lives miserable. He added that the police are not registering the case against the respondents, and requested that the court direct the police to register a case and restrain his sons from harassment.

After the preliminary hearing of the petition, a single SHC bench headed by Justice Adnanul Karim Memon issued notices to the Sindh advocate general, the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police and the petitioner’s three sons, telling them to file their comments.

Illegal construction

The SHC also directed the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to file a comprehensive report on an unauthorised construction in Lyari. Sikandar Ali said in his petition that private builders are raising ground-plus-seven floors on residential plots without any approved building plan from the SBCA.

Ali said the respondents were asked to take action against the unauthorised construction but to no avail. He said the locals are facing great hardships due to the unauthorised construction, and requested the court to direct the SBCA to take action against it.

An SHC division bench headed by Justice Arshad Hussain Khan directed the SBCA to file a comprehensive report on the subject building’s approved building plan by August 13.
