The Karachi Bar Association on Thursday requested the district and sessions judges to allow lawyers to appear in courts without wearing black coats due to the ongoing heatwave in the metropolis.
KBA General Secretary Ikhtiar Ali Channa wrote a letter to the district and sessions judges of the four districts, requesting a ten-day exemption from the requirement of wearing a coat by advocates while appearing in courts due to the extreme weather conditions.
“As you are aware, Karachi is currently experiencing an unprecedented heatwave with temperatures soaring to levels that significantly impact comfort and health,” read the letter.
“The intense heat presents substantial challenges for advocates who are required to wear formal coats while fulfilling their duties in courtrooms. The combination of the high temperatures and the formal attire creates an environment that can lead to severe discomfort and, in some cases, health risks such as heat exhaustion and dehydration.”
