Islamabad:Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, commended the law enforcement agencies for their efforts in maintaining peace during Ashura-e-Muharram. He praised the dedication of every force member in creating a peaceful environment for mourners of Imam Hussain to observe the holy day freely.

The IGP visited various imambargahs in the federal capital on the day of Ashura. During his visit, he met with the officers on duty, encouraged them, and reviewed the security arrangements for the procession. He also directed the officers to ensure fool-proof security measures.

The IGP emphasised that Islamabad Police and the district administration had made comprehensive security arrangements for the various processions on Ashura day. Security had been provided for all processions since the beginning of Muharram, with no compromises on the day of Ashura. Security measures included thorough searches within a five-kilometre radius of the main procession routes, with the presence of officers from the Special Branch and the bomb disposal squad. Additionally, police officers, civil administration, and personnel from Pakistan Rangers were active in their duties to ensure security. The organisers of the procession and scouts also played a vital role in the comprehensive security arrangements.

Furthermore, the IGP mentioned that Islamabad Police had implemented fool-proof security measures for the procession, and mobile services had not been suspended in any area. He stressed the importance of the Ashura procession for Islamabad and Rawalpindi and stated that the responsibility for ensuring its security was crucial. The procession routes were fully secured with barbed wire and tents, while drone cameras and Safe City surveillance cameras were used for monitoring. Participants were allowed entry only through specific routes and were subject to searches with metal detectors, assisted by scouts. Parking for specific vehicles and motorcycles was kept away from the procession route, and snipers were deployed on rooftops for added security. Under the special directions of the IG Islamabad, senior police officers consistently reviewed the security arrangements for the procession.

The IGP expressed his appreciation for the diligent efforts of every officer of Islamabad Police and reiterated their commitment to ensuring the protection of every individual's life and property. He highlighted that more than 16,000 officers of Islamabad Police would perform their duties from the first of Muharram until the 40th day.
