There is no denying the fact that a fair and productive examination system is the foundation of an education system. Unfortunately, Pakistan’s education system is based on rote learning and memorization and is plagued by unabated cheating. When a country’s educational system is rotten, dismal, and inefficient, expecting it to produce good learners and educators is a utopian idea. In most Pakistani universities, the authority to conduct papers and assign marks lies with the teachers, who, in my experience, often exploit this power and fail to judge students fairly.
The responsibility lies with the incumbent government and other relevant stakeholders to take these problems seriously and promote quality education. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) should monitor educational activities, bring changes to faculty recruitment, and provide proper training. Revising the curriculum and digitizing the examination system are also recommended.
