ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Wednesday dismissed a review petition filed against acquittal of an accused involved in the killing of five persons.
The incident took place at City Police Station, Lodhran, in 1999. Accused Akram and Iqbal were arrested for killing Lal Muhammad, Wali Muhammad, Naseer Ahmad Godha and Waqar Ahmad. The accused were released from jail after completing their sentences.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Faisal Arab heard the review appeal filed against acquittal of the two accused. During the proceedings, Saddiq Baloch, counsel of the accused, pleaded the court to dismiss the petition as the accused had completed their sentences.
Babar Awan, counsel for the petitioner, pleaded the court to restore death penalties to the accused awarded by the trial court. He said the apex court reduced their sentence from death penalties to life term.
