Protest staged in Bannu against rising lawlessness

BANNU: Hundreds of people led by the trader community here on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration and demanded the government to tackle the worsening law and order.

The Bannu Chamber of Commerce and Industry had organized the protest to voice their concern over the deteriorating law and order in the district.

People belonging to all the tribes in Bannu participated in the protest

which was staged outside the main mosque in the Bannu city.

The representatives of the trader community including Malik Saleem-ur-Rehman, Dr Abdul Rauf Qureshi, Mumtazullah, MNA Maulana Naseem Ali Shah’s brother Baseer Ali Shah, Dr Gohar, Jamshed Khan, Saifullah Khan, Niaz Shah, Maulana Tahir Mir, Pir Syed Ali Shah, Malik Hizbullah Khan, Malik Gul Bahadur Khan, Khalid Riaz Khan, former Nazim Zohaib Khan and others led and addressed the protesters.

They announced that the business community would observe a complete shutter-down strike on July 19.

After staging the protest, the members of the business community and the local elders spoke at a press conference at the Bannu Press Club and expressed concern over the rising lawlessness in Bannu.

They said that some elements were trying to disturb the peace, however, they would not allow them to succeed in their nefarious designs.

They also condemned the recent killings of the labourers in Bannu and demanded the government to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The elders also urged the Ulema and other members of the society to join hands with them to help restore peace in Bannu and tackle lawlessness.

They said that the trader community would observe a complete shutter-down strike on Friday and action would be taken if anybody violated the call for the strike.
