Ice drug seized at Torkham border

LANDIKOTAL: The Customs officials foiled a bid to smuggle ice drug (methamphetamine) at the Torkham border and arrested two women smugglers, officials said on Monday.

Deputy Director of Customs Enforcement Saiqa Abbas told The News that two women were stopped at the Torkham border crossing. She said the women were coming from Afghanistan and their luggage was searched.

The official said the Customs staff recovered six kilograms of ice drug from the women’s possession.Saiqa Abbas said the narcotics had been concealed in ghee tins to smuggle it from Afghanistan to Pakistan.

Those arrested were identified Shah Bibi and Gultaja. A case was registered against them, Customs officials said.The official said the worth of the seized narcotics in the open market was estimated at Rs 70 million.
