FAISALABAD: Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari visited the Muharram Control Room at the DC Office, where Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Nayyer Sheikh and CPO Kamran Adil briefed her on security arrangements and she monitored procession routes via CCTV cameras.

The control room is equipped with large LCD screens and over 387 modern and high-tech CCTV cameras for live coverage of key locations, including the central Imambargah Dhobi Ghat, Clock Tower, and various markets.

The district control room is directly linked with the provincial control room, allowing higher authorities to keep a check on the city’s sensitive points. The control room operates 24/7, staffed by police, Rescue 1122, Wasa, Municipal Corporation, Sui Gas, PTCL, FESCO, Civil Defense, district administration, and other departments.

Azma emphasized the importance of real-time monitoring of processions and gatherings. She directed immediate action on complaints and information received to ensure timely resolution of issues.

She also chaired a meeting to discuss Muharram arrangements and instructed strict monitoring of social media during the last three days of Muharram to rid of hateful content. She emphasized that any reported violations must be verified.

Further, she directed that government-provided refreshments be distributed at the drink stations on the procession routes. Continuous monitoring of flashpoints and close coordination with the peace committee’s religious scholars were also stressed. Monitoring of processions via CCTV cameras was reiterated as crucial for maintaining law and order. The Information Minister underscored the dual responsibility of ensuring religious observance and maintaining peace.
