Power crisis, heavy taxes: Jamaat stages protests across KP

PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) staged protests in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against the inflated bills of electricity, power outages and imposition of unbearable taxes on Sunday.

Protest sit-ins were arranged in all the district headquarters in the province. In the provincial metropolis, a protest demonstration was arranged outside the Peshawar Press Club.The demonstration was led by provincial secretary general of the party Abdul Wasi, district president Hamdullah Jan Budhni and general secretary Hidayatullah.

The participants of the protest demonstrations were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the policies of the rulers. They were also chanting slogans against the government.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Wasi said that hundreds of thousands of people from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would march towards Islamabad to take part in the protest sit-in against load shedding, price-hike and taxes on July 26.He said that the JI protest demonstration in Islamabad would prove the last nail in the coffin of the government.

He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was producing more and cheaper electricity than the rest of the country.“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was producing 8000 megawatts electricity while the total consumption in the province was 2500 megawatts. The cost of the electricity produced in KP was less than Rs3,” he added.

But despite that the most load shedding is done in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where all the factories have been closed due to power outages and joblessness has increased. He said that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would not tolerate the cruel load shedding and high bills any more. Jamaat-e-Islam provincial president of led a protest sit-in In Bannu. He also condemned the government for making the lives of the people miserable due to power outages and inflated bills.
