MANSEHRA: The local government representatives on Sunday announced to move the Peshawar High Court against notification issued by the provincial government to cut the financial and administrative powers of tehsil, village and neighbourhood councils in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“The government has issued a notification limiting our financial powers which we will challenge in the PHC,” Basharat Ali Swati, the general secretary of the village and neighborhood councils’ association, told reporters here.

He said that the meeting of the chairmen from across the district was held here on the directives of the Local Councils Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which decided to challenge the notification curtailing their powers in PHC.

“We are going to challenge the notification issued by the Local Government, Elections and Rural Development in the court,” Swati added. He said that village and neighbourhood councils’ chairmen throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would also stage sit-ins outside the Provincial Assembly in Peshawar and Parliament House in Islamabad.

“This order has snatched our rights of approving development funds, and also limited financial volume which is equal to a small scheme’s worth or amount,” Swati added.
