In order to streamline Karachi’s transportation system and eliminate illegal bus terminals, all inter-city buses operating from within the city will be relocated to the Super Highway Bus Terminal, according to Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi.

The terminal was established in the private sector with government approval in 2017. Various bus companies use this terminal, and its expansion plan is under way. The expansion aims to provide facilities to bus companies operating from different parts of the city and to eliminate illegal bus terminals.

Naqvi visited the Super Highway Bus Terminal on Friday. He was accompanied by Transport Secretary Asad Zaman and Karachi traffic police chief DIG Ahmad Nawaz Cheema.

The commissioner reviewed the available facilities and capacity at the terminal. The private sector was allowed to establish this terminal on the Super Highway to assist in the efforts to remove illegal bus terminals within the city, which cause traffic congestion and safety issues. During the visit, representatives of the private company briefed the commissioner on the performance, facilities and expansion plans of the Super Highway Bus Terminal. The terminal currently spans 7.5 acres, and is undergoing expansion to include waiting areas and food courts for passengers, as well as other necessary facilities.

The commissioner said that a meeting would be held next month with the Sindh Transport Department, the traffic police, other relevant transport and traffic authorities, and representatives of the private company to review additional details and make further decisions.

Provincial Transport Authority Secretary Okash Khalid Memon, Regional Transport Authority Secretary Nazar Shahani, and officers from the traffic police and administration were also present on the occasion.
