SIALKOT: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Saturday that parliament, which formed the Constitution, was the only forum to make any amendments to it and that this practice will be followed in the future.
Talking to the media about the recent verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding the distribution of special seats, Federal Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif also termed the court’s decision political, rather than constitutional. He said on Monday, parliament would finally decide about filing a review appeal with the Supreme Court on its recent verdict. He ruled out the possibility of any elections.
He added that the honourable court had benefited a party that had not sought justice from it, as the Sunni Ittehad Council was the petitioner and not Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He mentioned that over two million petitioners in the country have been waiting for justice from the lower to higher judiciary regarding their cases for a long time, but there was no one to pay attention to those millions of commoners.
He pointed out that it was ironic that people got justice in our country after being hanged until death, which is a major reason our judiciary stands at a low position of 134 on the international index, and no one has ever bothered to improve it. He alleged the rules of the game are being violated, and playing politics has become a favourite hobby of Pakistani courts for many years.
Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that an operation is currently underway against terrorism in the country in which people are losing their loved ones, but unfortunately, the PTI leadership is not supporting it. He viewed the PTI leadership as having always preferred themselves over the country, but the existence of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) is strongly related to Pakistan.
