Child marriage is a serious violation of children’s rights and also perpetuates a cycle of poverty and gender inequality. Young girls, in particular, are denied their right to education, put at risk for health issues due to early pregnancy, and frequently experience domestic violence and abuse.
We must take immediate action to fully address this issue. I hope that the government and relevant authorities will enforce and reinforce laws that prohibit child marriage, allocate resources towards education and awareness programmes, and offer support services to girls who are at risk.
