Maryam oversees rainwater drainage across Punjab

LAHORE/MULTAN: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is overseeing the process of rainwater drainage in all districts of Punjab, including Lahore.

A mega operation being conducted by the Wasa in various areas of Lahore is ongoing. On the directions of CM, the water disposal operation is ongoing in Lahore under the supervision of deputy commissioner. The water drainage process is on in collaboration with the Lahore Development Authority and Wasa. Relevant officers and staff are present in rain-affected areas. Heavy machinery and water pumps are being utilized for water drainage. A cleanliness operation along with removing encroachments is also being undertaken to ensure smooth flow of rainwater.

The CM has directed district administration, LDA and Wasa officials to undertake prompt measures for the facilitation of general public due to extraordinary rains. Effective measures being taken by the administrations of other districts for timely water drainage are also being monitored. Maryam has directed administration and Wasa officials to immediately reach rain-affected sites. She directed the staff to remain in the field till complete water drainage. She directed Rescue-1122 and other institutions to make preemptive preparations in view of an alarming emergency situation. She said water should not be seen on roads, bazaars and streets after rainfall. She directed the traffic police to get the roads cleared and traffic jams should not occur all over Punjab. She expressed grief over the death of four people in a roof collapse in Sheikhupura owing to heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, on Maryam’s instructions, a team of ministers visited Multan on Friday for condolence with the parents of a woman who died in mysterious circumstances. Punjab Minister for Social Welfare and Finance Sohail Shaukat Butt and Women Protection Authority Chairperson MPA Hina Parvez Butt arrived in Multan. They went to the house of Asad Abbas Shah at Chowk Kumharnawala and condoled the death of his daughter. Sohail said a joint investigation team would be formed to investigate the case. He said evidence would be obtained by exhuming the body. Hina said the government stood with the family and no one was allowed to abuse women. The government is making efforts to prevent violence against women. The Punjab government will use all resources to provide justice to the bereaved family.
