LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday ordered the immediate release of Sanam Javed, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist, from jail in connection with the Gujranwala case.
The Lahore High Court issued a written decision on Sanam Javed’s petition challenging her arrest in the Gujranwala case.
A two-member bench, led by Justice Asjad Javed Gharal of the LHC, issued the 14-page written decision on the petition challenging Sanam’s arrest in the Gujranwala case.
The court’s judgment noted that repeatedly mentioning the petitioner in the same case demonstrated malicious intent. The repeated arrest of the petitioner after her release was deemed an attempt to undermine the judicial process.
According to the written judgment, the deputy commissioners of Lahore and Gujranwala had issued detention orders for the petitioner while she was already in jail. The court acknowledged the need for strict action against the deputy commissioners but refrained from immediate action as a gesture of leniency. The Lahore High Court directed copies of the verdict to be sent to judicial officers, the IGP and all deputy commissioners.
