ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to convene a meeting of the high-powered promotion board to promote senior bureaucrats from Grade 21 to 22.
According to the government official, this meeting will be held in the third week of July after the 10th of Muharram under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Officers of the Pakistan Administration Service, Foreign Service, Police Service of Pakistan, Secretariat Group, Inland Revenue Service, Pakistan Customs and various other groups will be promoted.
According to the sources, the last board meeting was held on March 3, 2023, so there are 20 vacancies in Grade-22. The Establishment Division has completed homework for the meeting. All promotion zone officers of Grade 21 have been asked to submit their annual reports and declarations of returns or their cases will not be entertained. Due to the stoppage of promotion to Grade-22, Grade-21 officers are posted on many Grade-22 posts.
The promotion process of Grade-19 and 20 officers has also been stalled for a year. These promotions are done by the Central Selection Board. The Central Selection Board meeting was held in August last year. The chairman of the board is FPSC chairman but this post has also been lying vacant for several months.
The post was vacated by the resignation of former chairman Shahid Ashraf Tarar, who became a minister in the caretaker cabinet. After that, no permanent chairman has been appointed. More than three hundred officers of Grades 19 and 20 are waiting for promotion.
