Traffic diversion plan for Muharram processions unveiled

The Karachi Traffic Police on Friday issued a traffic diversion plan for the upcoming 8th, 9th and 10th Muharram.

Officials said the traffic police security branch has prepared a traffic diversion plan for the 8th, 9th and 10th Muharram. The following are the details of the main procession of Muharram and the alternative route of traffic.

On these three days of Muharram, the main procession will depart from Nishtar Park and end at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah via its traditional designated routes. MA Jinnah Road will remain closed from Gurumandir to Tower due to security reasons.

Alternative routes (for District Central): The people coming from Nazimabad can go to their destination from Lasbela Chowk to Nishtar Road via Garden, while people coming from Liaquatabad can take a turn from Teen Hati to Lasbela Chowk and to the left and go towards Central Jail (Martin Road).

The commuters going from Hassan Square to PP Chowrangi can go from Kashmir Road to Society Light Signal (Sharea Quaideen) and from Jail Flyover to Teen Hati to Nishtar Road (Lasbela Chowk).

Alternative Routes (for District East): The commuters going to the Naumaish from Sharea Faisal to Sharea Quaideen (Noorani Kebab) can go to their destination from Kashmir Road on the right side of Society Light Signal. Moreover, the people going from Central Jail gate (Jamshed Road) towards Gurumandir and MA Jinnah Road can go towards their destination from Gurumandir to Bahadur Yar Jung Road, Soldier Bazaar.

Alternative routes (for District South): The people going from Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road can go from Ankle Saria to Gul Plaza on the right and Coast Guards and Holy Family Hospital on the left to their destination.

Alternative route for heavy traffic: All heavy and commercial traffic going from Super Highway, Gulberg to MA Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No-10 to Nazimabad Chowrangi No-2 via Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Shershah to Mauripur.

All heavy and the commercial traffic going towards the city via National Highway, whether via Highway Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2, Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Shershah to Mauripur will be allowed.

All types of traffic, small or large, will not be allowed on the procession route beyond Gurumandir Chowk. All this traffic will be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jung Road Soldier Bazar. Moreover, the entry of all types of vehicles is prohibited on MA Jinnah Road except those whose wind screen has a sticker to join the procession. The vehicles with stickers will be allowed to enter the procession through the Highway Leaders Society Light Signal.

Route for participants: The participants coming from Nazimabad Lasbella, Albella, Garden Jamaat Khana on the right, Soldier Bazar No. 3 Light Signal to Naumaish and from Liaquatabad to Teen Hati, Jahangir Road, Gurumandir to Naumaish.

The participants from Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal shall join via University Road, Purani Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal to Naumaish.

All vehicles that will join the procession to perform Sabeel or Niaz or Tabrak Taqeem.

The entry point (entry point) in the procession of these vehicles will be only Tower and the Memon Mosque. No vehicle will be allowed to park on the procession route.
