In Pakistan, the right to information is recognized in the Right to Information Act, 2017 but it is on record that several public sector organizations show reluctance to fulfil their duties as enshrined in the Act. It is apt to mention here that under Article 19-A of the constitution, the right to information is a fundamental right of every citizen of Pakistan in all matters of public importance subject to regulation and reasonable restrictions imposed by the law. How long will this veiling of information and transparency continue in this country? Why is strict action not taken against those authority figures who violate the law?
