A Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) worker was gunned down in Korangi on Wednesday, while a mob who had gathered at the crime scene beat one of the shooters to death.

The incident occurred in the Dhobi Ghat area within the Zaman Town police limits, where two suspects on a motorbike shot the PPP worker, who was on his way home on a motorbike, and left him gravely wounded.

A mob who had gathered at the spot caught one of the assailants and beat him up, while the other attacker escaped. Both the injured men were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where they succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

The deceased PPP worker was identified as Noman Abbasi, 32. He was a union committee secretary, and a father of three. Police said he was a resident of Korangi’s Kundo Goth and owned a tea stall in Bengali Para.

Two cases ‘solved’

On July 1, another PPP worker named Aamir Abbasi had been shot dead in Korangi. District Korangi SSP Tauheed Rehman Memon held a press conference on Wednesday evening to announce that both murders were committed over personal disputes, and that the suspects in both cases had been arrested.

The officer said that one of Noman Abbasi’s attackers was caught by the public while the other was arrested by the police. He said the police also impounded the suspect Shiraz’s motorbike and seized the weapon found on him.

SSP Memon said the murder was committed over a personal enmity. He said Shiraz owns a paan shop, and the deceased had been harassing him to remove it. The deceased had also been harassing the other suspect’s wife, so both suspects had planned the murder together, he added.

Regarding PPP councillor Aamir Abbasi’s murder, the officer said he was killed near Indus Pharma. He said suspects Asim and Bilal have been arrested. Bilal had fired the shots while Asim was driving the motorbike. He explained that 15 years ago, the deceased had murdered one of the suspects’ father in Quaidabad, so the suspect took revenge for his father’s murder.
