Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Ali Naqvi, accompanied by Karachi Water Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) CEO Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, conducted a visit to the S-III Sewage Treatment Plant TP-III in Mauripur on Tuesday.
Also present during the visit were Chief Operating Officer (COO) KWSC Engineer Asadullah Khan, Project Director S3l-III Nizamuddin Shaikh, Project Managers Waseem Akhtar Shaikh, Shiraz Shaikh, Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh, DPM S-III Pradeep Kumar, Project consultant Dr Bashir Lakhani, contractor Irshad Hussain, and other senior officials.
According to a KWSC spokesperson, the top officials undertook a comprehensive inspection of the plant, focusing on the inlet, outlet, overflow, discharge, screening system, and pumping facilities. During the visit, Dr Lakhani and Hussain provided detailed briefings to the Commissioner and KWSC CEO regarding the Sewage Treatment Plant TP-I in Harunabad and the TP-III Mauripur project. They highlighted that the TP-III currently treats 54 million gallons of water per day (MGD), with plans to expand its capacity to 180 MGD. They also noted ongoing work on the TP-I project, which aimed to treat 100 MGD of water.
Officials disclosed that the Sindh Government had allocated Rs3 billion for the S-III project this year, with an additional commitment of Rs4 billion for next year, contingent upon timely fund disbursement to ensure project completion. Emphasising the project’s significance, Ahmed stated that its primary goal was to manage and treat wastewater flowing into Lyari and Malir rivers, thereby enhancing Karachi’s environmental and sanitation conditions through robust infrastructure.
Naqvi stressed the urgent necessity of completing the S-III project promptly to meet the city’s critical needs. He directed concerned authorities to expedite efforts and utilise all available resources effectively.
