Judicial inquiry ordered into Steel Town police encounter

Taking notice of the police encounter in Steel Town, where a woman was killed and another was wounded, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has ordered a judicial enquiry.

Officials said Lanjar ordered ascertaining the facts related to the investigation of the case through a judicial enquiry. The home department has sent a formal letter to the Malir district & sessions judge for conducting a judicial enquiry into the incident.

The minister directed the deputy commissioner and the Malir SP to extend all possible assistance for the judicial enquiry, seeking a report containing the findings of the judicial enquiry to be sent to his office within 30 days.

The letter reads that the Sindh police chief has requested for a judicial enquiry to ascertain the facts about the police encounter that took place within the limits of the Steel Town police station on July 4, killing a woman and injuring another.

The home department requested the judge to conduct a judicial enquiry into the matter accordingly, and furnish a report to the department within 30 days for taking further necessary action.

The terms of reference of the judicial enquiry are to ascertain the facts about Sarah Ibraheem’s death and Ghanva Ibraheem’s injuries due to alleged gunfire, to identify the person(s) responsible, and to recommend further legal action in the matter.
