Enhanced security for peaceful Muharram ordered

ABBOTTABAD: Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Hazara Region, Tahir Ayub Khan on Tuesday said no effort would be spared to improve security and to maintain law and order during Muharram.

He directed district police officers and Circle Sub-Divisional Police Officers to review the routes of imambargahs, majlis and processions. He said the security of Chinese and other foreign nationals working on development projects in Hazara should be tightened.

The DIG said that measures should be taken to maintain law and order during Muharram and directed the DPOs and Circle SDPOs to monitor the routes of imambargahs, majlis and processions.

He directed the officials that no assembly or procession should be allowed without getting a no-objection certificate. He said monitoring and recording of all the processions should be ensured by installing CCTV cameras on the routes of the processions with the support of the relevant departments. He said that the routes of the procession should be checked through bomb disposal units and canine units. During congregations and processions, officers, policewomen and other units should be deployed besides conducting search and strike operations by checking hotels and inns.

The official said that movement of persons included in Schedule-IV should be closely monitored. He said establishment of a Muharram control room should be ensured at the district level.DIG said action should be taken against illegal use of loudspeakers and against those spreading sectarianism.
