KHAR: A grand jirga of tribal elders on Monday announced to hold a protest sit-in against the worsening law and order situation in Civil Colony in Khar on July 18.
Addressing the jirga, lawmakers Mubarak Zeb Khan, Dr Hameedur Rahman, Anwar Zeb Khan, Malik Ayaz, Gul Afzal, Tehsil Council Chairman Syed Badshah and others demanded the government to probe the recent bomb blast and other subversive acts in Bajaur and arrest the perpetrators forthwith.
They said that over 4,000 elders and civilians had died in the so-called war on terror and militants and military operations since 2008.The speakers said that repeated bomb explosions, target-killings and other terror activities had made life miserable for the people but the government and law-enforcing agencies were yet to restore lasting peace in the tribal district.
They said that people were compelled to turn to the streets to demand protection and peace for their near and dear ones.The leaders announced that a protest sit-in under the banner of Amn Pasoon would be organized outside the Civil Colony in Khar, the headquarters of the Bajaur tribal district, to raise voice for the restoration of peace.
